Counselor: Pastor Tom Coker

Tom Coker was born and raised in the Big Thicket of Southeast Texas.  He grew up in a Christian home and attended the local Lutheran Church where he served as the president of the youth group.

During his high school years, God called him into the ministry of counseling.  Despite the calling, Tom had dreams of making it big in the business world by having his own business.  Upon graduating high school, Tom attended Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, Texas.

During his freshman year, he met his wife Kim.  They were married in 1995.  Like most marriages, Tom and Kim found out early that marriage is not easy.  They attended marriage counseling, a “Christian Counselor,” who only wanted to help them mediate a divorce rather than lead them to the healing power of Christ.   This experience soured his taste for counselors but ended up playing a wonderful part in shaping the counselor that he is today.  Despite the horrible experience of that particular counselor, Tom and Kim were able to find healing for their marriage and now have two wonderful children, Hannah and Noah.

Upon graduating from college, Tom moved to Dallas and experienced the failure of business and the success of promotion in the corporate world.  Tom’s promotion ended up moving his family to Connecticut, but after five years in the Northeast, Tom had a new business opportunity and decided that this was his chance to move his family back to Texas.  They settled on Round Rock where they still live today.  Two years into the business, the economy took a downturn and he made the difficult decision to close the doors.  It was also during this time that he and his family were struck with devastating news.  As a result, Tom began to re-examine his life and whether or not his goals were God’s goals.  After being on his knees in prayer, God reminded Tom of the calling that He put on his life as a teenager.

Tom is now a National Christian Counselors Association Licensed Pastoral Counselor and Co-Director of Head to Heart Restoration Ministries. He uses his professional training and personal life experiences to bring the healing power of Christ to those who are wounded and broken.

Her skills of leadership, teamwork, teaching, organization, communication, and mentoring helped many she lead to reach their goals. As an elementary school teacher and children’s leader for Bible Study Fellowship, she has developed strong skills with children leading them to reach their potential and developing a personal and vibrant relationship with their Savior.

Karen has worked consistently in her children’s schools as a member and/or board member of each of their PTA or PTSA organizations. She has taken on more responsibility in the district sitting on committees such as Site Base Representative for each school, Boundary Committee, and most recently as Chair for the Mental Health sub-committee for the district’s Student Health Advisory Council.

Karen helped start, lead, and consistently prays with the Moms In Prayer groups who have prayed for their children’s schools week after week.  Several years ago, she answered the call to lead many mothers in the same ministry as the Williamson County Area Coordinator of Moms In Prayer International.

Karen discovered Head to Heart Ministries and Temperament Therapy while seeking counseling after the death of her mother and other life difficulties. She has personally seen the Holy Spirit through her counselor bring light and life to the dark hurt parts of her heart bringing healing, restoration, and beautiful hope and a joyous outlook. Karen wanted to learn more and more about how this transformation begins and works to completion, and so she began studying Temperament Therapy working towards a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling. It is her deepest desire to help as many as God would bring to find this same healing and new life opening up a positive and purposeful future.

Counselor:  Pastor Brenda Ramsey

Brenda Ramsey was born in Northern Illinois.  She fondly remembers snowy days and the white Christmases of her early childhood. Her family moved to Texas when she was eleven years old, long before Brenda ever had to shovel snow or drive in it.  Although she isn’t a Texas native, Brenda married a native Austinite and remembers growing up in the Austin of the 1970’s.

Brenda met her future husband Mark when they were both drummers in their high school band.  Music has been a part of their relationship since the beginning.  With aspirations of a career in musical theater, Brenda attended St. Edward’s University as a theater major. Early in her marriage, Brenda realized that God’s plan for her life didn’t include Broadway.  It did, however, include raising four wonderful children.

Music continued to play an important role in Brenda’s life, as her husband became a professional musician, and with him, Brenda had the opportunity to sing with several church worship teams, perform professionally, and record with various musical artists.  In the 1990’s Mark and Brenda were members of a contemporary Christian band, and along with their band-mates, had the privilege of leading many people to the Lord during their concerts.

Brenda currently serves as a member of the worship team at the Austin Vineyard Church.  She also assists Mark in leading worship once every month for Church Under the Bridge, a homeless ministry of Mission Possible, Austin.  Mark, Brenda, and their team have been leading one service per month for almost twenty years now.

After years of counseling in many different vocations, from Church Administrator to Human Resources Director, Brenda finally realized her true calling. She entered into her formal education under Head to Heart Restoration Ministry and the National Christian Counselor’s Association (NCCA), becoming a Certified Pastoral Counselor, Certified Temperament Counselor and member of NCCA.

In addition to her training with Head to Heart Restoration Ministry and the NCCA, Brenda is a Pastoral Counselor for The Austin Vineyard Church and has completed Life Skills Facilitator training with Life Skills International.  Brenda is currently a counselor with Head to Heart Restoration Ministry, the Director of Family Life Skills of Austin, and on staff as a Certified Pastoral Counselor at Restore Transform, in Cedar Park, Texas.

A wife of over 35 years, mother of four, mother-in-law of three, and grandmother of nine, Brenda has experienced a lot of life, with all of its peaks and valleys. She’s passionate about sharing the transforming and healing message of Jesus Christ with hurting people.
